So I've received my DLA renewal letter and excruciatingly long claim form DLA1A Adult January 2013.

I'm absolutely FURIOUS there's no way to complete it other than by hand, particularly when I'm recovering from a 3 month flareup which has caused damage to both hands. I either attempt to fill it out myself and be in absolute bloody agony, or I have to ask my husband to fill it in.

a) Has anyone gotten around this?
b) Why have I not found one even ONE legal challenge against this by all the disability charities?

Any advice welcomed.

It's a pity they don't do what the Passport Agency does for renewals. You complete the renewal form on-line and they then send you the completed forms so you can sign them and add any evidence such as photos.

Or just let you do it on-line - so much easier than writing. But I can just hear them saying 'Let your husband (or someone else) complete it for you then.' I am extremely fortunate because I have never seen the form you are referring to but I assume that it asks for some very personal information that you might not be happy disclosing to the form filler, even if it is hubby.

When I renewed my DLA a few years ago I downloaded the form, typed it out in stages, then did a print out and sent it back. There was no way I could write out over a 100 page form. Have a look online and see if you can still do this?

Very best of luck with your claim.
Best wishes

It used to be an interactive PDF, meaning you could type it in stages, save, and edit / amend where necessary. The current version isn't interactive. I think it's a double whammy to hit people with - a) make it too difficult to complete, b) if you have manual dexterity problems you can't claim full care benefit because if you can complete the form you can take care of yourself.

Sickening. This current government are one step away from nazism.
